Threadfin for lunch

Popped into the local market earlier today and ended up purchasing this 12 inch long threadfin called Ikan Senangin in Malay or Ma Yau Yu in Cantonese .

Was torn between a mammoth , more meaty specimen costing MYR 30 . I really wanted the larger one but since the smaller one was way fresher , with a visible blueish tinge and clear eyes , while the bigger one looked like it was on the way to having cataracts  yeah I reluctantly settled for this at MYR 16 .

One pot Chinese herbal chicken soup

I admit to not knowing much about Chinese herbs but I love the taste and sometimes have a craving for it .
When that happens , I merely walk into a Chinese medicine shop and pick up a prepacked bundle of herbs like what you see below .

The young sinseh is someone I've patronised off and on , and I've seen him go from black hair to spikes of grey today . Out of curiosity , I asked him what another bundle of herbs was for. He was aghast that I did not know that it was the soup that was a woman's only combination . Not enough , he insinuated in so many words that I was darned lucky to have pulled through my entire life ! ( looks like I'm not the only over dramatic person ) without ever having drunk that once .
Righttttt I'll try that another day .

Wild caught Jumbo Sea Tiger Prawns

Went to the market and found wild caught Jumbo Sea Tiger Prawns at 80 ringgit per kati ( that's per 600 grams ) .
Selected 3 of the best looking specimens before one lady came and sapu-ed the rest ( about 15 numbers in all she took ) . Mannnn.....I didn't even want to stay back to hear how much the entire lot would cost her .

These 3 alone took 40 ringgit .
If you think that is excessive , then compare the size of the porcelain spoon to the prawns . They're not farmed but caught in local waters .

Hawker style oyster and peanut porridge - one pot slow cooker recipe

Sometimes I get a craving for this breakfast offering sold by some hawkers in Kuala Lumpur at
Brickfields and Peel Road to be exact .
As I simply cannot find this dish in Penang , I have no choice but to cook it myself .

Peanut root soup - said able to make 'em grow taller

Update : by October 2016 , the hobbit has hit 170 cm . So I guess this recipe is successful but you will have to follow these rules .

1. use PORK fillet

Why not Chicken ? Because I have 2 sons and I used chicken on the first and I can tell you that you need to use pork as a catalyst or it won't be so effective . Chicken can be used but it won't be so effective .

2. Only for boys . Not for girls .

Again , I need to stress that this recipe is for boys . DO NOT let the girls drink this . The effect will be reverse plus she will get a host of other physical attributes except for being tall . She will end up VERY SHORT with other things growing instead . Please take note . Not kidding .

3. Method

Boil with the cleaned roots for 2 hours and drink the liquid

4. Dosage and timing

Your boy can only drink this a maximum two times , not more and BEFORE their voice breaks . If their voice has broken ( changed ) you cannot let them drink this .

*********

The hobbit doesn't seem to be increasing in height, so I'm trying this recipe out.
Said to be able to spurt growth, I never boiled this in the first place partly because I rarely go to the wet market. Cut the long story short, I stumbled upon this most unexpectedly.
Ahah ! Time to see if what they say is true about peanut root soup being a growth spurter.
