At St Peter's Square

St Peter's Square is also known as Piazza San Pietro.
It was designed to accommodate up to half a million devotees who want to receive the Pope's blessings at the same time.

The 2 images below, came  from my travel partner. He has a different perspective on angles and I thought these shots were pretty interesting .
The first is a close up of the Basillica dome where Michelangelo's frescoes come alive.

Second gives a peek at just one segment of the 140 statues found on the 2 semi-circular pillars called The Colonnade, which embraces the square.
Created by Bernini, the master sculptor and his students , it features popes, saints , martyrs and religious figures.

Time for mine.
Hush now, we're in the realm of the Holy See

Even the manhole covers carry some sort of meaning.

Right in the middle is a more than 3000 year old Egyptian obelisk.Other than doubling as a gigantic sundial, exorcism formulas can found on the east and west side of it's base.
No kidding, wowzers.

Inadvertly when you are here, you are bound to join at least one of 2 queues. One for the Sistine Chapel and Museum....it may seem long but it takes just 15 minutes to clear....

...and the other for the ladies which is
One floor down, free of charge, very clean .

That over and done with, we begin our long wait.
Am prepared this time round.
We are gonna get blessed by the Pope on a Sunday !
