Warung PGK - everything celup tepung

This stall has been visited by Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan, the tv show, so I guess it has to be good right ? I mean judging from the line ?

On the menu was fish, sweet potatoes, mushrooms and a whole variety of other ingredients. Squid is rare so I guess we were kind of lucky to be able to get some on the day we visited .
One thing worth taking note of is the white board. Spot the big order from the state palace,mind you.

Dear Pok Mat

Pok Mat has been working at this resort since the day it first opened. I'm sure that in his heyday, he too must have been as popular as Benny and the other fabulous beachboys.
But when he bragged that if I had followed his boat * yes, he's a boatman *, I would not only shed my fear of the water, I would also be able to snorkel like the rest,swim freely even, I just laughed my head off.

Turns out he, had the last laugh because somehow, that was the day I momentarily put aside my phobia.
" You must believe in your lifejacket" " You must believe that when you put it on, you will never drown"

Gong Kapas Kueh stall - I must be dreaming !!

" How much did you say all this cost you once again ?"
* One Ringgit *
"What ? You're kidding right ? "
* Am I laughing ? *
"Serious arrrr ? "
* Ya larrrrr *
" All this Onde-onde really cost just one ringgit ? "
* Don't believe izzit ? *
" They crazy or what ? "

Lempeng Nyior - Jln Panji Alam

In the post before this, I mentioned that most people are under the impression that businesses are mostly dominated by women in the northern east coast states.
As you can see down here below, that's not always the case. This stall was introduced to us by Uncle Tan, the best tour leader in Kuala Terengganu.

For those who don't know what Lempeng Nyior is, it's a slightly sticky on the inside and lightly crisp on the outside coconut and flour pancake that's just slightly sweet but really tasty.

Warong Corner - Jalan Banggol, Kuala Terengganu

One of the most peculiar things that sets the northern east coast states apart from the others is that the frontline businesses are mostly a woman's domain .

And judging from the lunch crowd, the white collar workforce seems to be like that too. Unsurprisingly, this first impression makes future parents in law from other states rather wary about their offspring settling down with a life partner from this region .

So clandestine

Even though turtle eggs are still sold openly in Kuala Terengganu, the seller was no where to be seen.
Read : i-l-l-e-g-a-l
Guess she's got to be hiding somewhere amongst all the traders I suppose, as the eggs were just left there on the floor with the price list written on a cardboard .

And while it's a delicacy known among the locals as a libido booster , I have absolutely no intention of touching it (no, that's not my hand there )

Camwhoring crab

So many things happened in Redang and this is one example

" Eh look ! There's a crab ! "
Rushed over and true enough there it was in the sand assuming this position.
Was it frightened ? Ready to attack ? Or maybe the fella is just plain curious about what we humans are up to ?

Got toast bread, got squirrel

Meet one of the many resident squirrels.

During the day, these critters will be busy parkuoring through the treetops and roofs...

Blue diamonds in the sand

" There's Blue Sand in Redang ?" to tell you the truth, I was really intrigued. Really ? And so we set out to find it and see it with our own eyes.

As you can see, we were not alone. Others were busy hunting for it too. It took some time for my eyes to adjust before I finally spotted it .

A scaredy cat snorkeller for the first 3 days

Unlike this kid here , I have a fear of watery depths where my feet won't be able to touch the ground....

.... and yet here I was marooned with twice a day snorkelling activities lined up, over the next couple of days.
Marine Park in the mornings, other spots during the afternoons. Lasting around 2 hours each session. Walaueh...
Homaigawd whatever have I gotten myself into ?

Boatmen of Terengganu - a different kind of daring

In 2010, tales of randy boatmen from the state, spread via the internet. Compared to the buff and gorgeously tanned beach boys, people couldn't understand how these ordinary blokes, could get pretty lithe, bikini clad babes to dangle from their arms day and night  . The only explanation they could think of was, these boatmen, had to be dabbling in black magic or spiking drinks . Since I've been there and back, let's take a look at whether they have to resort to such means or not.

Another piece of paradise

Been to Terengganu 4 times in total and gulp, each time I fall deeper and deeper in love with the place . First trip was to Paka, second all the way up to Kota Baru ( that's in the state of Kelantan ) , third to Kijal and this time across to Redang.
And my gawd I love Redang. Like totally.
