Yummy Yam basket at Hooi Wang

If only you could smell and taste this.
Hooi Wang's version is super addictive to the very last white beehoon on the plate. The beehoon has been deep fried into puffs to absorb the delicious sauce that runs out once you start eating the basket itself which is made from yam . Prick away and you will find that the insides are as yellow as a pumpkin which makes it even more intriguing . In most establishments , the basket is just for decorative purposes , not very appetizing, but one bite of this and you will see all the chopsticks steadily picking away at it.
There are at least 3 varieties of mushrooms , crunchy celery , snowpeas , brown squid , baby corn ooohhh....so , so good.

Let's say you're here for the first time.
Of the 2 doors ,this side is for those who want to enjoy steamboat while the other side is for chu char dishes like the Yam basket above.

We're having the best of both.
This lavish steamboat set will set you back by RM60 only.

For that amount , we got 4 medium prawns , Jellyfish tentacles ( very soft and divine to munch on ) , fish meat.....

One small mangrove crab with incredibly rich roe ,
fish stomach , fresh squid , brown squid ( essentially squid soaked in alkaline ) , meatballs , deep fried fishballs .....

More fishballs , crab sticks , chicken meat , inoki mushrooms , and dried squid

I don't have much experience with this ingredient combo thus we spent a bit too much time trying to coax the soup into releasing a sweet richness with hardly any success. Perhaps they should have omitted the round cabbage from the plain soup stock. Long chinese cabbage and more salt would definitely work towards a more robust stock .
Those of you who appreciate natural sweetness without help from salt and msg would love this steamboat but when we return , we'll sample more from the chef's kitchen rather than jellyfish over the steamboat again.
One thing for sure , they sure know how to prepare jellyfish tentacles. Plain as the soup was , the tentacles were remarkably good with no stinging reaction whatsoever that would slightly swell up my lips.
