14 of Penang's Most Hardworking Little Weekend Artists

The need for a cuppa was the reason why I found myself heading towards Kim&Gary at the underground level of 1st Avenue Mall .

Can't say I stumbled upon this event as it was held next to the restaurant

After 2 hours of perseverance, bent backs and numb bottoms,it was judging time for these 14 polysterene works of art.

First up, 3 consolation prize winners are announced.

This girl put a lot of work and material into her egg.
It had two sides to it.One pink, the other yellow

The other side

next consolation prize winner

last consolation winner came up with a cute and original slant
complete with soft toys and a painted easter basket
Fine, neat painting incorporated with recycled crafts
makes this chubby fella below, a top contender that almost always snatches the top 3 prizes in most events.
He was awarded the 3rd prize this time round.

2nd prize winner is a heart breaker.
Always very well dressed like a popstar with a super cute cap topped boyband face to boot,he stitched his way through the hearts of the judges and even added LED lights for that extra WOW factor

The 1 st prize winner nails it with big presence and overall presentation

Additional polysterene added on for an impressive effect

Personally I liked this one, although it did not win any prize for all that effort.Check out the handmade nest !

This bunch of little artists, are really a hardcore bunch because the circuit is quite lucrative.

Not all of them are attending today as some only want to aim for events that offer prizes worth $700 and above.

In a good month,it is quite easy for the top of the cream to make around $2k to $3k.An average month would yield $1k.At the worst they can still rake in around $500 a month which works out to minimum of $6000 a year for the creative, hardworking, most talented of the lot.

Thus you see them or their parents jumping from complex to complex, rushing from one event to another, sometimes even to the extent of splitting in groups to make the organisers wait for their arrival, since the earnings they get from vouchers provide much needed help to their parents and guardians, some of whom are retirees.

Might make you wanna consider enrolling the kids for art classes eh?
