Penang Tsunami Alert - The Day After

The day after I gathered witnesses feedback . Talk of the town, so to put it.

What I heard was this.

Straits Quay residences
Residents were told to evacuate their Millions of ringgit homes starting around 4plus in the afternoon. Some were so dazed they drove around in circles of shortcuts, only to find themselves hopelessly trapped in more jammed roads, before heading to their relatives houses that again were situated less than 2 km from the sea
Tanjong Park Condominiums ( opposite Island Plaza )
The force was strong enough to throw one back and land on your butt if you were about to push open the door to your apartment.
Scared residents starting driving out (some wanted to go towards Penang Hill ) but found themselves caught in a jam.
Precinct 10
Restaurants told to evacuate.Staff were dazed. Not knowing if they had to do closing, accounting or just abandon shop and go home.
Gurney Plaza
Cinemagoers fled out on their own. Some emergency exits at the staircases were inaccessible or locked.
Carpark ticket machines saw long queues, two exits leading out jammed.
Prangin Mall
Restaurant workers prevented people from leaving until they paid up first to avoid incurring losses.
Batu Ferringhi
Police kept a close watch preventing anyone from going to the beach.Watersport activities were shut down.
Tourists were unperturbed and went about their own business, dining and shopping like nothing happened.
Some locals and out of state visitors panicked and made their way out towards Jln Tg Tokong
Jln Batu Ferringhi
Clear and smooth flowing
Jln Tanjong Tokong to Komtar
As a result of all the above.....huge jam starting from Island Plaza onwards.
At one point some wondered if they had to adhere to the traffic lights.Their only thought was to get out and save themselves.
Mount Erskine
Reduced to a crawl
Inner City (Georgetown)
Workaholics reported windows that rattled and office chairs that moved back and forth
Evening.Reports of an Aftershock sparks another panic.
Due to false rumours that the bridge had been shut down, some headed for the highest ground they could think of.
Others just recall sitting in a jam,in their car, thinking if they'd make it out in time
By night
Most people were indoors praying or eating dinner or staying glued to the tv or social network waiting for something to happen or keeping their hopes up that it would not.

Today, 12.04.2012
Everything is back to normal.
Everywhere, people of all ages, were relating their experiences to one another, asking the same question to one another
" Did you feel it?"
