While Kar Bee Cafe's owner always makes the newspaper headlines for buying the largest grouper in the wetmarket, they don't just serve fish noodles.
Super fresh squid, prawns, fish maw ( very in demand by local gourmets ) etc are available too.
Just take a look at the size of this prawn !
Most come here for the fish meat which they dole out in generous amounts..... far more than other places.
You have 2 choices, larger species ( his speciality which is more expensive ) or the smaller one ( lower priced ).
If you choose the very tasty, precooked, deep fried fish,
be warned that the batter is quite chewy and tough.
Regretted opting for the yee mee, as it was kinda undercooked.
Will probably order prawns minus noodles next time, as I really detest thick vermicelli.
Not exactly crazy over fish cooked in either manner because it all boils down to the taste of the stock.
Doesn't score very high marks with me.
Purposely kept plain, boiled with slices of ginger, just a tiny bit of
flavour, very little salt, topped off with deep fried garlic and
sprinkles of spring onion.
Can't say the same about others though, as this shop has quite a following.
I suppose by now, you would have noticed those round floating objects.
Commercially produced Pork balls. Tasty and firm.
Makes up for the lack of taste in the soup.
3 bowls totalled $ 31.
Unbelievably cheap ! Even by local standards.
Judging from the size, portion and freshness, they're a hit amongst seafood lovers who prefer it plain and simple.
