My GP is in her 70s . Hale and hearty as an ox. When she suggested that I get jabbed, I just had to open my big mouth and tell her my aversion to needles.
Well, that did it.
GP : " Why ? Are you afraid of the sight of blood ?"
Me : " No, it's just that, I have a tendency to black out after that "
She's giving me a funny look at this point
Me :" I mean, it won't happen instantly, but when it does, it comes without warning . I'll just drop and the last thing I hear is people screaming .....Aiyooooo....Amoi ! Amoi ! "
GP : " Were you frightened during your childhood ? "
Me : " By what ?"
GP : " Oh, I don't know....by adults fighting or something ?"
Me : " um ....well ....."
Now, I pause
GP : " Experienced any shock when you were small perhaps ? "
Me : " Come to think of it, I do feel kinda shocked after getting pricked actually "
She's frowning and observing me even more closely.
GP : " I think you better come back another day for this. I want you to lie down when I jab you and will monitor you after that to make sure you don't fall and injure yourself "
Me : " Ok, but why can't I do it now instead ?"
GP : " Now ? No ! "
She shakes her head furiously
Me : " Tell you what, I'll take a deep breath. Stab away , I'm ready for it "
GP : " No ! I can't have you walking out of my clinic and falling down in the middle of the road . Someone might kidnap you after that "
I'm giving her the funny look at this point
Me : " Kidnap ? Me ? Really ? "
Har har har my gawd ! Can't believe I'm hearing this . Trying very hard not to burst into a giggling fit.
GP : " But of course ! After you fall in the middle of the road, someone could stop their car. And then they'll get down from their car and kidnap you. And if anyone asks, they'll just tell them you're their sister "
I don't know if I should feel frightened, flabbergasted or flattered.
Me : " Come back another day then , ok Doctor ?"
GP : " Much better "
Phew
Conclusion : either she's gone loco, has watched too many Tamil movies or I'm really too sexy for my blady old body.
