The masses are euphoric when Pope Francis finally appears at the window. There are people from all over the world , some of whom have been waiting for this moment all of their lives.
Big screens are set up so you can see his every gesture and there are cameramen everywhere who often focus on the groups in the sea of people. Screams and shouts can be heard accompanied by enthusiastic waving when that happens .
The mass blessing of the people on this fine weathered Sunday, is free, just make sure you come early, that's all that is required
Wednesdays are when the Pope blesses personal items and you have to get a ticket for that purpose but I'm not deterred.
Here are the 4 sweet rosaries I bought for around 18 € in total and I will lift them up at the moment Papa Francesco lifts his hand to bless all of us in the square
Mission accomplished.
My best close up shot with my cellphone.
If this is important to you, bring your best zoom camera.
We are momentarily distracted by these runaway balloons which were probably released to add gaiety to the whole scene played out before us.
Soon after the service, a group of musicians and what seems like folk singers belt out inspiring songs that capture everyone's attention.
A circle is formed around them with people dancing a simple
repetitive step to the tunes.
Sure looks fun.
I ask the banner guy where they're from and he replies
" V ahreh ferom Yeee tali "
I see.
The circle gets bigger and bigger, with tired dance participants replaced by people waiting on the sides.
Am glad I stayed back or I would have missed out on witnessing first hand, the impromptu merry making festivities carried out by various pilgrims in the square.
