Tram no 4 - Jews, Nazis , Communists, Facists and Heroes in a day

Budapest offers the visitor so many amazing tram rides  , one after the next, if you get a metro travel pass like I did , you will feel like the whole city is your playground since the pass entitles you to unlimited rides on all buses , trams and trains within the city limits .

While Tram no. 2 was most scenic, No.4  was mostly packed !
Hopping onboard this route however, makes it easy to explore the important chapters that shaped the city  without needing guide services.
Just pay for entrance fees and take your own sweet time exploring without bursting a blister .

.

After leaving Rákóczi tér Vásárcsarnok , otherwise known as Market Hall II , I headed for this tram station right across the street.

Let's say you are coming from Keleti , you may alight from the Blaha Lujza tér metro and hop onto Tram No. 4 at this junction where there is a Mc D just round the corner.

Use this domed building as a landmark. It's very distinct.

Though I didn't sit through the entire route, rather than passing by the Danube, Tram no. 4 actually crosses 2 bridges spanning the Danube, covering both Buda and Pest.
On one end , you have Petőfi Bridge, yeah this one below...

...and on the other Margaret Bridge . But I can't confirm if the train passes by or you have to catch a feeder bus or not because I didn't ride it all the way from end to end.

Morever , Tram no. 4 is a great way to to go visit the attractions no matter how walkable you think it is, since the city is huuuuggeeeee and I mean huge. Save your feet for the parks ,weekend fairs and hill climbs.

Other than crossing the Danube in 2 different locations, get yourself a travel pass, so you may hop off and on as you wish.

One stop after Blaha Lujza tér , you may alight to go take in a cuppa at the famous New York Cafe at the Boscolo.

Follow the tram line and you will find the  moorish influenced  Great Synagogue . This entire area is known as the Jewish quarter .

When you're done, hop back on Tram no. 4 and get off at Oktogon.
Walk away from the river and walla, you're on tree lined Andrassy Avenue !

Now , this is what we are here for. You can't possibly miss this building known as House of Terror . It was formerly a Nazi headquarter!  Whatever you do, however stingey you are, you need to set aside some money for the entrance fee as this stop is an important introduction into the city's tragic  past and what the people have undergone as well as overcome.

Since this attraction can have a negative impact on you ( unless your heart is carved out of cold hard marble ) maybe even make some visitors  feel like crying halfway through, fill you with fear even, when you finally emerge, soak in the sunshine.

Then go look for the underground entrance and take the metro, yes the metro not tram no. 4. Take the metro at get off at
Hősök tere and feel the good vibes at Heroes Square , where Michael Jackson shot the History music video .
After all , don't we all need Heroes to look up to in our lives.
