Nasi Kandar Imigresen

Is there ever a bad plate of nasi kandar to be found in Penang ?
Yes and no .
Depends on your preference really . Some places serve dishes that are oiler and greasier than the rest , some can make you instantly fat in one plate ( I'm not kidding , I avoid those places like the plague ) and then there's the old school type ....reminiscent of those who migrated down to KL and set up shop around the old Batu Road area ....
Nasi Kandar Imigresen .
( these days , they use commercial curry powders so purists....walk the other way )

Just because there is no queue , doesn't mean it is not good .
Pole hugging is good for the lumbar lolz.

While the best time to come is when they have just cooked their dishes ( oh it is heavenly at that very moment ) , I still haven't figured out when that exact time is yet .

I did hit the jackpot one day , where the rice was still steaming hot and the okra was still green , squid still fibrously chewy and the crumbly deep fried fish roe had just left the wok , however most times , this is what you will get .
For those of you who want to stake it out , this is one of those places where the food tastes better when just prepared , so the staking out will be worth your effort .

What's good here ?
You can take a hint from the pictures of what we like to eat .
I won't recommend the deep fried stuff to everyone as it is done till dry ( if that is alright to you )

Squid with salted duck egg and one pan fried bull's eye egg on the side ( it's a chicken egg , silly )

Fried chicken with bone on lamb and deep fried shallots .
Yep , the deep fried shallots are their signature trademark .
Of course you can tell the server to leave it out if you want .

My order

Green , just cooked okra , with deep fried onions , a sac of deep fried fish roe , one bulls eye egg , squid curry and one deep fried chicken on the side .
I sometimes vary it by requesting for
" kuah campur " ( mixed sauces ....the portioning is a science ) and a salted duck egg .

Location : Lorong Pasar , Georgetown , Penang
