Our £5.20 takeaway feast from Sainsbury's ( NH )

Sainsbury's makes it possible to have a filling meal for slightly more than a fiver in the middle of expensive London. Just head over to their roast counter.

Take one (gigantically barbaric sized )
cooked gammon shank  priced at £ 2.75

And add on a half roast chicken (£ 2.45 )

Grand total £5.20

I was salivating as I watched the counter lady unwrap the paper baked gammon shank.
This is something we can't get back home.
The skin was kinda tough and chewy, but the meat was well marinated and quite good when hot.

Taste changes when cold.
You could then slice the meat and place it in between bread with a little salad and cheese to make a nice sandwich.

Actually was contemplating whether to take the ribs instead when one lady grabbed the last two standing on the counter.

Although they certainly looked delicious and plump, I couldn't help comparing the British bred birds to our much juicier and tastier breeds back home.
Nevertheless if you pair it with western soup or instant noodles, it will make a satisfying meal to tide over any cold weather.

Pay for your purchases here and you can enjoy your just bought meals on the benches near the entrance to the supermarket .
( We trotted back to the hotel fast as we could )
