D' Portuguese Cafe & Restaurant - Authentic Kristang Flavours ( PF)

At first glance, it looked like another ordinary makan stop

But take a second look ....

I am sure you will make a U turn back , just to check it out

This has got to be one of the most charming restaurants I have ever come across.
Done kopitiam style with lots of antique momentoes that show off it's unique Portuguese heritage.

Every corner has a treasured keepsake or picture, that tells a tale of a life lived .
These were hanging on the wall above our table;
Wonder what the Seberang Flour Mill sack signifies ?

I am a greenhorn when it comes to Cristang cuisine .
Therefore I thought it was fairly safe to start with a cup of Portuguese coffee
 $3.50

Fuyoh.
Can drive back to Penang backwards with my eyes wide open.
See the deposit lines .....
Very kau and actually tastes like Kahlua coffee because they used caramel instead of condensed milk or white sugar.

Can't remember exactly but this is called Sinagre ( or Singgang ?) Serani $ 16
Huge, generous, thick slices of fresh tenggiri, cooked with brinjal.
Not used to the taste but it is extremely hot !

Deable Chicken Curry $ 17
(Devil curry)
Now I know why they call it that.
It's because your tongue will burn like hell .
Kinda nice, though I would have liked it with more salt

And those two curries above are the reason why rice ($ 2 for a huge portion ! ) exists.
Nah...just kidding
Their version is dry, with a  just kernelled fragrance.

The less adventurous among us went for the Fish & Chips made from dory fillet ($ 15)
Scrumptious breadcrumb, good fries, I must add .

What's the best thing about this place ?
The awesome friendly service and the fact that one can see the entire clan  from grandma to many grandkids in front of the restaurant. Everyone helps out in someway or another.
Grills are available for dinner but sadly we did not have the luxury of time to stay a little longer although we would have loved to.
