Baklava and Lokma - Tatlici Safa

Take a short stroll around the Spice Market, and you will surely stumble upon this busy Lokma and Baklava shop.

The selection is bewildering for a first timer like me.
Look to one of the counter guys for a recommendation. " Is it very sweet ? " I ask . And he points out a selection which he thinks that I can probably settle for.

Lokma is the oily looking deep fried thingy swimming in syrup. It's ok, tastes sweet as Gulab Jamun a bit, only not so squishy, but harder than air dried cruellers.

Moving on to the Baklava, unless you have a sweet tooth, please, don't follow what I did. Don't think you can swallow this like Nyonya kuih, It's superduperrrrrrr  sweet. Liked the pistachios and that greenish layer though. That crumbly powdery green stuff, is quite addictive.
The other roll has walnuts inside. Just as sweet.

Washed down with a cup of what else, but Turkish tea ( lovely saucer, getting to be an aromatic habit that's hard to kick )

and Turkish coffee between us.
The bitterness helps to stave and balance what my tongue is unaccustomed to.

And so we quietly make our exit as the man in long sleeves, personally carves another heart shaped price tag from a plastic sheet.

Location : in the lanes outside the Spice Market, Eminonu,Istanbul
