Hunt for the broken Serpent Head - Istanbul Archaeological Museum

This is the Serpent Column. Situated between the Walled Obelisk and the Egyptian Obelisk in the Hippodrome of Constantinople , it's a trophy made to commemorate the Greek victory over the Persians in Platea and is dedicated to the god Apollo.

Stretching back thousands of years , my goodness, I am not leaving Istanbul without seeing whatever's left of the original 3 heads, with my own eyes.
See the inscription....4th A.D........ is this awesome or what ?

If you're wondering why the column is green, it's because it's made of bronze. And though it needs a good brasso rub down, don't even think about it.

For history buffs, the Istanbul Archaeological Museum is something you absolutely cannot skip. Yeah, this act officially certifies me as a nerd. But I don't care.
We hitched a ride from these fellas and huh, let me say, it was thrilling zipping uphill at top speed on what was essentially a golf buggy. Hah !

Held my breathe as I took this pic. Yep, find it I did.

If it makes you feel uneasy, well, consider the fact that it was regarded as a sort of talisman in the past against snake bites in the city ! Yikes !

Facts laid out for all to see.

Still, hunting down the head, after first seeing the broken column, was one of the highlights of my trip here.

Location : Hippodrome of Constantinople, Istanbul Archaeological Museum
