Most curry fish head lovers, will know this place.
Under a block of dowdy flats...alllllll the way in Alor Setar.
We Malaysians, this is how we keep on driving the food industry. Nothing is too far. No zinc roof to lowly, when duty calls for a good eat.
Picked the "ang choh" or red snapper. The head fills this entire platter and I'm just showing you the meaty part.
Everything else is consumed from the gelatine like lips to the eyes etc etc.
Yep we travelled so many miles just to savour the freshest, most tender fish head I've had to date. Meat just falls off, smoothness is silky and unparalleled.
Tastes light, not too hot and spicy. Cooked with brinjals and cucumber atop a banana leaf, so you can imagine the taste will be quite unique ( though it looks like green curry but it's not ). Topped with a handful of mint leaves.
Thought a good plate of kangkong belacan ( water convolvulus fried with shrimp paste ) would pair well with the above, but this is F-A-I-L.
I know what they used in here, and it's all wrong. Kindly order the "ching chau" next time and don't repeat my mistake.
Backtracking my way out so you know how to look out for the entrance to the area.
Make sure you spot the Taman Setia Jaya plaque.
That plaque is just next to this funny looking row of tin roof houses ( probably a tom yam joint )
Which just happens to be next to a Petronas ( Jalan Langgar )
Easiest way to find it is to remember that it is just next to the Alor Setar Utara toll exit from the NSE. Once in, turn right and make a U turn after you see a large Dunlop workshop in black and yellow on the left hand side of the road.
Location : Taman Setia Jaya, Alor Setar, Kedah
