Restoran Haji Ramli - peak vs non peak ( U )

Restoran Haji Ramli is immensely popular amongst local and foreign visitors staying near Pantai Cenang, in Langkawi.

You can chose to sit outside or in. Makes no difference since some asses don't seem to know how not to light up, seeing how this place employs an open air concept.

After finding a seat, if the waiter ever notices you, that is, he will probably lead you over here to choose the seafoods that you want. Put them in a plastic basket, tell him you're done and he will jot down the weight .

Me, ah, I have a weakness for squid.

But crabs, um, after that Umno building incident in Penang, most Penangites like me, are currently avoiding this like the black plaque.

There used to be more varieties of fishes than this. Still, it's better than selecting a live specimen, out of a tank filled with gawd knows what chemicals ( anti fungal, anti itch, etc etc )
Rather have 'em dead than alive.

As, some people have been making noise about the difference in the food quality during peak and non peak period. I'll let you be the judge of that.

First up, non peak.

 Our table erupted in laughter.
Holy guacamole, WTF is that ?????
Sheeeeet, are those the medium sized squids I selected earlier ?
Crap, it looks like shrunken gamat ( sea cucumber ).
Take a bite, omg, it IS fresh ! So fresh even the eggs ( that white colour stuff which I normally hate ) are exceptionally delish . This picture demonstrates both the good and bad points of ordering during the non peak period. Good, the grillers have plenty of time to cook it nicely. Bad, turns out looking like this.

 Tomyam campur .
At RM9.90 a bowl, I won't say it's overpriced because there's just sooooo much ingredients inside. Worth it but like most locals, don't  fancy the soup.

Butter prawns.
This is a Chinese recipe and Haji Ramli, fuh, he's got it right.
"Tapek "
Only available during non peak period. During full house, you can forget about ordering this.

 Peak period.
Grilled Cincaru monster sized fish cost us geez close to RM 30. But it was tasty, I have to admit. The marinade is excellent. Just didn't have time to seep into the rest of the meat.

 Seafood soup. RM 9.90
Wowzers, comes with a pincher even. Then again, although I have no complaints about the massive amount of ingredients inside, the soup is well, passable. Would say that this is better than the tomyam soup above.

 Holy mother of gawd.
Look what the beach washed up . Grilled prawns and squid. Burnt, charred, hard, tough overdone.
Adoishh....

Lesson learnt :
Tastewise, ok alright , freshness is there, price cheaper than most, only the presentation sucks. So you either take it as it is or go somewhere else.  Me, I can live with it until you show a better place than can match them in price and freshness.
