Coral clearing at the beach

The effects from the tsunami in 2004, contributed to the destruction of the coral reef at Teluk Datai. Up till now, dead coral is still washing up.
As The Andaman is actively promoting coral conservation efforts, once or twice a month, volunteers are recruited from hotel guests to help in the clear up.
Dead corals on the beach, is something we all take for granted, so ok, I'm curious enough to wanna play my part . Count me in.

First things first. We were taught how to differentiate live corals from dead ones. Live corals have colour on them . In case you're unsure, place it in a pail of water and if you see something pop out and back in again, return it to the sea.
Essential equipments : safety shoes, gloves and a plastic basket.

There, all set

While I was picking up tiny, tiny, small coral debris on the sand, these Mat Sallehs just jumped straight into the sea and worked as if they were sifting for gold.
Aisey, feel so paiseh only.

Most enthusiastic response came from the tweens. They really went all out and gave it their all.
Very, very hardworking and motivated.
Good job !

This is actually a mini Thor.
You know, this fellow, fuh, the amount of coral he picked up, the basketfuls he offloaded, someone should give him a medal for hisefforts.

Tadaaaa....what a small motley crew of volunteers can do.
The haul was so eye popping, one guy remarked
" Oi, eu guise ken siel eet two dee agkuareeum"
I think he repeated himself 3 times until someone responded.

Yeah, you worked your ass off for one hour or so. But because you're a guest at a 5 star resort , they will not let your deed go unrewarded.
Freshly squeezed juices , ice cold beer, etc etc, all the nice sparkling refreshments with polite waiters and servers thrown in.
Nice ? Yes, I think so too.

Location : The Andaman, Langkawi
