How to DIY your own batch of celebratory red eggs

On my first attempt ,his friend mockingly asked me
" This is your first time isn't it ? "
Well, how did he know ?
The spot of wet dye underneath the egg was a dead giveaway. Rather than die from embarassment, I have since improved.

While nobody's forcing me to keep to this Penang tradition, where red eggs are served together with chicken curry and nasi kunyit ( um, I don't do the chicken curry and nasi kunyit cos I don't pray to the ground spirit known locally as Datok ) I wanna do it, because some traditions should be still kept alive and pumping no matter how ridiculous they seem.
Plus it's fun trying to peel them and eat them without getting your fingers stained red.

Made in batches , they are meant to be distributed. And if you're a first time receiver, the giver will probably tell you that
" Just accept this, it's for good luck "

Anyway, here's a simple How-to-DIY your very own batch of red eggs.

1. You need 10 chicken eggs, 1 small bottle of red liquid food colouring, a pot for boiling water and water of course ( hello ) also utensils for the dye and roll project. The reason why you don't want to buy it from outside vendors, is that they might be using banned/ illegal/unsafe food dyes. Ok set.

2. Fill the pot with water and boil the eggs. Once they are in the hard boiled stage, take them out of the hot water one at a time

3. Fill a small bowl with half a bottle of liquid food dye

4. The most important step is this. Immediately upon removing the egg from the boling water, you must quickly place it in the dye and roll it around without letting the egg cool down. If you allow the egg to cool down , even just a little, chances are high, that the dye will not stick.

5. Pat dry with tissue and repeat until all eggs are completely coloured .

I suppose you can modify this to make green or black eggs for halloween and blue or pink eggs for Easter.
Hope you have fun with this.
