What 70 ringgit can get you at East Coast Grill - Red Garden

Did you see the headlines in the papers today ?
Yes we're all getting fed up with hawkers giving us nothing in our RM4 bowl or plate of noodles.
Sometimes I feel like it's more worth it to eat at restaurants since you now need 4 bowls to feel full which is ridiculous really. Work that out by 4 pax and I'm sure you'll agree with me.

There are many grill joints in Penang named East Coast, on the island but not all of them serve good food.
This one's different.

This whole feast cost us a grand total of RM70. Here's what we enjoyed. Some of these shellfish dishes were featured in a post before this.

1. Par boiled blood cockles.
A local delicacy and I mean local.
Toothpicks are provided for you to pry the meat out. Quite messy as the juice oozes out when you prick it open .

2. Large grilled portion of skatefish on a banana leaf.
Hard to find a grilled fish stall selling fresh skate nowadays.
In some places, the meat is stuck together like glue. This one's sweet and tender.

3. Generous plate of grilled aubergines and Four angle beans with dried shrimps.
Really delish

4. Small plate of Kapah clams fried in a hot curry paste.
Very spicy but very nice.

The venue however , is a tacky, gaudy place which features skimpily dressed singers . Lots of caucasians in the crowd who are here for a cheap beer not the food

Location : Red Garden, Penang Road
