Now why didn't anyone think of serving Laksa Kedah this way before ?
Presented inside a scraped out coconut shell , the result gets everyone wanting to make a beeline here in a jiffy.
Looks beauuuutiful and so delicious when posted up on the social media .
Those prawns you see on the far end are an additional order .You may also ask for a bowl with prawn and crab add ons.
Or plain with half a hard boiled egg, like in the picture below .
I personally find the soup very addictive , rich , flavourful and full of zesty flavour from the katchai lime to mask the fishiness of the stock.
However , the premise is not a place you might want to take foreign guests .There are flies everywhere and yes of course your guests will mind , silly !
These flies come from a chicken farm just outside town .
They actually hitch rides on vehicle windows from the Penanti rest stop .
Don't believe me ? Then make a stop and see for yourself. We tried to ditch 4 of them at 80 ....didn't work
The instant we entered Kulim town , they disembarked. Is this laksa dish the bomb or what ?
Locals on the other hand , will put up with them darned winged pests , so long as none of them end up in the soup.
Apart from the glaring lack of seating space , one is also expected to queue canteen style as there is no table service.
Another annoyance is that there no serving trays available. Meaning , you ,will have to have a spider grip on 2 coconut shells or do a circus act if you are sent as the lone ranger for the other 5 in your group.
If you really don't mind all that , then by all means join in the crowds of curious . Maybe then you will understand why this laksa dish went viral over Malaysian cyberspace .
I do.
Location : Kulim , Kedah
