Darned bloodsuckers of Taman Saga

Some time back , one local half Thai lady bragged to me about how great the salted egg crabs were over in Taman Saga . She smacked her lips and gave it the thumbs up . But I was not so familiar to want to venture further than the centre of town ...yet. Still , I made a mental note to go check it out one fine day.

Then when I last queued for the McD nanoblock house , the nice chatty guy in front of me , had a twinkle in his eyes when he mentioned that he had sacrificed supping at Taman Saga just to get in line for his tiny girlfriend .
Damnit , now I really had to go find out for myself what the fuss was all about .

Not knowing the area , it did not help that the roads were pitch black , with pockets of potholes . Confoundedly confusing
After feeling around blindly , found the crab place tucked away in a corner but there were no diners. Ditched that and went to Chong Wahh instead because Wahh ,will you look at the full house yo !

Not knowing what to order , we eventually ended up trying out 3 dishes.

Chai po hu.
Dry , overcooked flesh with too much wine in a sauce that I found too sweet .

Asparagus in sambal .
Sambal no kick . Just does not go together.
Meh tasting .

Kau yoke ....a triple belly pork layered with yam slices.
Housewife standard , not restaurant standard . Nothing to shout about. The yam was tasty and that's about it.

The mosquitoes here are something else. A crazy ravenous bunch. They made dining here unexpectedly exciting. But they're also daft and incredibly stupid and I can tell you this because when the above pork dish was put on the table , those darned bloodsuckers started hovering about the meat as if it were spewing out raw red blood .

Anyway , since the food was not up to mark , we ate while making funny faces . Our legs shifting left and right like we had to go and pee sitting down or something ....a trick that works for daft bugs to stop making red welts out of you.

All the above cost MYR 55. Which is really cheap considering the portion and amount of meats .

I guess the diners here love the place because it is cheap . Me , I found the bearded Chinese guy behind the counter , more food for thought . Oh yeah , and so did other gals. I guess he's a dish in Taman Saga, though he's um , quite well fed and rounded .

You don't have to take my word for it as diners here come in big groups , with a minimum of ten people at a time . Some take up 2 tables and order dishes by the course . Many left with smiling faces and very round tummies.
Thus , if you have guests and want to treat them on a modest budget , you might find this place up to mark.
Just bring repellant as the floor fans can only do so much . And a hand fan because you might find beardy quite attractive and hot .

Location : Taman Saga , Alor Setar , Kedah
