Ulam Peria Pantai - soap salad you can eat

So I went back for yet another go at the raw salad selection .
Did not take pics so I am reusing the pics from earlier just to show you what it looks like .

One only consumes the soft leafy shoots that look as glossy as the pages of a magazine .

In Malay language , it is called Ulam Peria Pantai .
Or the Colubrina Asiatica .
Aka Lathering Bush for its ability to be a soap substitute  ( it lathers up bubbles when rubbed on your body )

The taste is slightly bitter at first bite with a very delightful sharp Thai basil aroma and a texture so soft I swear I almost got high on it .

Because of the slightly bitter flavour , I combined the 2 very excellent , maddeningly addictive dips .
One a light pink ....is salted krill or cencaluk with birds eye chillies and the other a bright red , extremely spicy Northern Region speciality .... with tons of cut tomatoes and onions .
Pure heaven !

Local folks believe that consuming it in moderation can help with the following :
control high blood pressure , diabetes and gets rid of constipation .
However do not take too much ( because you will need to go so often you might think you've got diarrhea ) and never eat the seeds as they are toxic .

Location : Northern states , Malaysia
