Temple Tree - rustic old Malaya recreated

Well , not exactly ....of course there are modern day trappings . Otherwise how would they get the star rating accorded to them plus mentions in premier travel magazines ?

Had a bit of trouble locating the resort at first .
Coming from Pantai Chenang , it will be easy to miss . So just look out for the Bon Ton sign and you can turn in from there too because they are connected via a short gravel road .

Anyway , this will be the first bungalow that you see , called the Straits Clubhouse where you first check in and can subsequently hang out thereafter if you like .
There's a lap top , printer , boardgames , reading materials and a small bar cum restaurant if you ao wish to use those facilities .

Black and white house ...yet another of the many jewels of the resort  .
Did not stay here but if we had , it would be even lovelier .
Showcasing exquisite Malay architecture with beautiful stained glass windows , this gorgeous home is originally from Mantin , Negeri Sembilan and was built somewhere around the 1920s .

Instead we stayed behind the black and white house , right at the fringe of this very rustic , tree shaded estate .

Our lodgings .
This house was built on a Penang plantation in 1900 by a Malay family . 20 years later the property was  bought over and renovated to this size by a Hakka family by the name of Cheong .
There are 6 rooms of various sizes and we got to stay in ....

...Plantation 2 .
Never been so nervous opening a padlock before .
The instant we opened the door , I can't tell you how exciting it was to feel as if we had just been transported into a bygone era .
Can't get over how comfy the bed was. The sheets though thin had a threadcount that was cool enough during hot weather yet insulating enough to keep out the cold air conditioning .

While there are a lot of antique features here , well , you do have some modern conveniences like a tv ( that only plays videos apparently as there is no reception ) , a mini fridge , charging points , airconditioning , hot water , running taps , electricity , even a small safe  .

This drawer with the label that says
" Mosquito Guerilla Warfare "
got us chuckling .
City slickers might be unprepared for the army of wildlife just outside your doorstep , so make sure you use some of these self defence weaponry ok ?
You will come face to face with many species of insects , fruit beetles , bats , and maybe the occasional snake .... all a part and parcel of nature . If you can't take critters then maybe this place won't suit you .

Already know what I need .
Anti insect body spray, electric repellants plus that all important torchlight .

What's on top of the fridge other than a toaster , electric kettle , teapot and french press ?

Earl Grey , Twinnings , Jasmine Gold tea , freshly ground coffee beans and English Breakfast tea .

Every evening , the staff will deliver tomorrow's continental breakfast to each room . They place everything inside the mini fridge but we did not wait till then and had a most scrumptious and filling late night supper with all these ( well almost ) items below .
While we kept the cheesecake and yogurt till morning , we made the right decision in toasting the breads as they were so downright delish , the smell of butter filled the entire room !
That's fresh bottled milk , Elle & Vire butter , potted honey and strawberry jam .

Let me tell you , all this is more than adequate for 2 pax . And very yummy too . Breads are baked fresh by the resort chefs and they're so good !

Bathroom washbasin ...

...really enjoyed using this Indochine spice soap

Even has a modern rainshower with extremely hot water .
Use the mixer taps to get the right temperature .

Overall view of the bathroom .
So very different from all the places we have stayed before .

Other thing about the resort is this ...
there are cats everywhere .
If you think they are a nuisance , actually , they are good company to have because they have good hearing , are very vigilant watchdogs so to speak .
Which is very important when you live in a grassy , tree covered area like this .

Did I enjoy my stay here ?
Of course as I love antiques , cats , the layout resembles an era gone by and the meals are so colonial , you can't help but love the place .
