Deadly guardrails

This is a highway guardrail .
The very thing that is supposed to assist in protecting vehicles and its occupants lives , by absorbing , deflecting , and dissipating the force at point of impact , and most important of all , crumple , the very moment it is hit .
However , in the past one week alone , there have been 3 deaths caused by impalation via guardrail alone .
You can't even label it a freak accident anymore after one too many occurrences .
Indeed , the guardrails have instead turned into giant deadly swords on our highways .
These " swords " are just not crumpling .

Without immediately putting the blame on reckless driving , why this is happening ?
And so often too ? Should the blame squarely be put on the drivers shoulders then ?
Most certainly not .

If you're looking for someone to point the finger at , who should it be ?

1. The manufacturer ?

2. The highway authorities ?

3. The main contractor ? or the sub contractor ?

4. Scrap metal dealers ?

5. SIRIM ? the engineers ? the qc ? highway inspectors ?

Who should be held responsible for the loss of lives ?
One person in the US thinks the manufacturer is at fault .
Refer to this link :

Looking at this guard rail below , some bolts and nuts were missing .
Did the end contractor compromise ?
Was the installation done to spec ? Were they stolen by addicts or scavengers ?
Some guardrails also have traces of rust .
The issue of maintanence comes to mind . These two above , missing parts , rust and maintanence alone , could weaken the structure enough for it to jut out upon collision , pierce through the vehicle and kill .

So really now , who is to blame ?
By questioning , hopefully action will be taken and lives can be saved .

If corners have been cut and you have the power to fine the contractor , do it , make them rectify it .
If the bolts and nuts have been sold to scrap metal dealers , turn it into a criminal case and fine them till it hurts .
If the site inspectors are at fault , haul them to court .

But before any of that can set in motion , remember , this could happen to anyone of us or even our loved ones . So stop blaming the drivers entirely until we find out why this problem is so prevalent , not just in this country but worldwide too .

If , in all eventuality , there is a flaw in the design of the guardrail itself or even the galvanization or manufacturing process , do something about it !

Guardrails were meant to save lives not snatch it away in the bat of an eyelid !
It simply should not be happening at all in the first place .

In the meantime , above anything else , drive safe folks and make sure you get enough rest before you hit the road .
