Oryx Lounge - Hamad International Airport

If not for the airline I would not have discovered what great changes took place with Doha's international airport .
Now known as the Hamad International Airport , I've witnessed  3 phases starting with the time when it pretty much resembled a circular domestic airport . Wasn't anything much to do really .

2nd experience is listed somewhere in this blog of mine .

Today look at this . Wow !
Blew me away , it did . Whatever branded goods you may want , you can grab from here . In terms of size , Doha may look like it looses out to Abu Dhabi , but I bet you can find any luxury duty free goods you lust for if you so want it here !

The Qatari's love for children is shown throughout the airport
with plenty of amazing structures that double up as huge playgrounds to tantalise the kids . Almost like a mini Disneyland .

While everything is quite orderly ....

....and I somehow got so hyper at the sight of the brand new monorail ( didn't I tell you the airport looks so themepark like now ? ) ,
somethings never change .

The seats . Demm . They know how we travellers love to hog and stretch out . Those arm rests are unremovable .

Not to worry , depending on which class you flew , the airport has an Oryx Lounge for economy fliers , a Business lounge as well as a hugeeeee First class lounge . Entry privilege is first come first serve and reserved for Qatar airlines customers .
We flew economy , thus Oryx is where we're headed to . Just need to be quick .

Here's the entrance . The girls in charge , make access to the lounge a little difficult once the limit is met . Don't be annoyed as that measure helps maintain the very serene , comfortable and liveable , cozy vibe inside . There's a locker outside but you can still drag your bag in .

Stretches all the way ....

...to the back where the buffet and start of the dining proper is .
Selection is not bad . Unlimited drinks .
Cos I had an 8 hour transit , I tried both the supper and breakie menus .
Good coffees , nice cakes .

There's a board for you to check on your flight status . That was great .

Tv , net station ,separate game room

What I really needed and aimed for were 2 things .

1. This quiet enclosed lounge with comfy chairs which was so high in demand gosh . Smoking room next door but I never smelt a thing .

2. The shower .
So good , just no hairdryer and you have to make sure you don't walk out with wet hair while in the Middle east as it's considered rude . To solve that , I simply tied mine up in a bun . Acceptable .

Overall : worth it if you use the facilities but most importantly , can land yourself an entry ticket

Location : Doha , Qatar
