Inside the Little India enclave in Georgetown , more and more of these banana leaf places are slowly being taken over by Chinese and Thai owners .
Which sadly leads to a real screw up in terms of taste , till I've begun shunning one outlet which used to be frequented by those in the law profession .
Then , I came across Subham when I scoured the area for a new place , one which served a decent banana leaf meal , so familiar to our tastebuds .
Placed an order for mutton curry ( omg so tender and delicious ) as well as chicken ( yums ! )
only to
receive a huge shock when a huge bowl this size , which is like 4 times the size of what most banana leaf places serve , was presented to us .
Hoboy , this is going to cost us !
20 ringgit for the mutton , 12 for chicken , 6 for each banana leaf set ...mannnnn .
While I think Sri Anandha , which is a few doors away , serves better tasting vegie dishes , the meat dishes here got two thumbs up from us .
Very homecooked feel to it , just like being continuously fed to the point of bursting in someone's home .
Had no chance to try out their fish dishes , but I did so love their dhall curry which is meant for pouring over rice as it reminded me of one all women run diner over in Kampung Benggali , Butterworth .
The thing I did not like was that the rice was served just tepidly warm instead of hot . And the papadom was not so crispy anymore .
Next round , I'll order the mutton curry and wolf it down with just dhall curry and a bigger cup of cow's milk tea . Nice ! Hopefully the bill will be lesser than this .
