Assam Pedas Premier - One Precinct

In the Bayan Lepas district alone , there are 2 Assam Pedas Premier outlets . One on the topfloor foodcourt inside Queensbay Mall and the other here in One Precinct .

While I have eaten at their Queensbay foodcourt outlet a couple of times , this is my first time here actually and I'm absolutely fawning over the teh tarik . Something the first outlet lacks , since the drinks are sold by another operator instead .

Anyway , we ordered the sets . Drinks are separate mind you , so when I mention sets , it means foodsets .

First one . Assam pedas ikan pari ( a sour , watery skatefish assam curry ) .
Comes with a plate of white rice , a selection of raw salads , a dollop of pounded sambal as well as half a salted duck egg .

They serve the skatefish inside this claypot below which looks well used and burnt lol . Cooked together with okra and a quarter of a tomato , some kesum leaves , this dish is VERY spicy and tangy mind you . If you hate spicy food , please do not ever try this . You'll think we've gone mad .
Back to the sour curry , it kind of reminds me of a cross between the Assam Pedas sold in Johor due to the oily and unappetising appearance , and the fantastic tasty one we tried in Malacca .

Next up .
Chicken rendang with nasi lemak .
Love the spice combination . Again , it's slightly on the sour side , only more fragrant as the chicken has been cooked till the liquid has almost dried up .
Too bad the peanuts were a bit burnt and the dried salted anchovies were inedible.  The boiled egg was excellent . White part was very cold , firm and jelly like , while the yolk was dry and crumbly . Don't know what technique they employ to get eggs this texture but I sure as hell cannot replicate this at home . The red sambal is cooked with palm sugar and it's very hot , so exercise caution there , rice was NOT Malay ( I'm thinking this is more Indonesian ) , raw cucumber slices are customary for this dish .

Last one.
The Ayam Masak Merah set .
While the set was too boring for us , since we prefer very hot and spicy food , the chicken was a surprise .
They'd deep fried it till the skin was a bit bubbly and crisp before laddling some of the sweet and lightly spicy gravy for it to absorb . Very yummy .
Those are prawn crackers and the small bowl is filled with a quick boiled mixed vegetable soup .

Overall ,it's more spacious and pleasant here cos when we go over to Queensbay , we have a hard time finding seats .

Open for lunch and dinner , if you ask me , I wished they had a combo of assam pedas ikan pari sauce with chicken rendang and rice . Now that would be awesome !

Update : we popped in for some cucur udang and teh tarik . Ah man , I can't tell you how wonderful a simple meal like this is , but it is .
