Nasi Dalca Briyani - Kampung Masjid

Nasi Dalca is uniquely Penang . It's not as famous amongst out of state visitors but it sure has a hungry hoard of local fans right here on the island .

Today , I'm at Kampung Masjid , which is located just behind the famous Cargas Cafe .

Parking has always been a headache , and then there is the queue to contend with .

However , we're really early .
Wooohooooo !!!
See ? No one ....YET .
Fantastic , we can get to pick and choose PLUS easily find table space .

How do you go about ordering your food ?
Well , you simply present yourself at that counter in front and request for a plate of rice . Then you proceed to self scoop whatever dishes that strike your fancy , let the girl on the right hand side of this photo below , evaluate and bill your food for you .
It'll be written on a piece of paper and handed to you . Once you finish your meal , just go back to her , show her that piece of paper again and pay up .

What's the big fuss about Nasi Dalca ?
Slightly yellow , the rice is cooked with split chickpeas hence the name and colour . Combined with other spices , the result is quite delicious .
My opinion is that I much prefer this Nasi Dalca version compared to the one I tried at another place 2 or 3km away .

If you think you've tasted Penang food , well , you really need to come and try this place for yourself .

Real Penang Muslim cuisines are a confluence of cultures and cuisines
that may take some initial getting used to . In fact , you may get shocked and end up completely hating everything about it first but then one day , out of the blue , you will sheepishly admit that this is indeed unbeatable .

The plate above was his . The udang masak lemak cili api was saltier than the Minang version , he said the fried chicken tastes a little bit like Cargas' killer fried chicken but I beg to differ .

I , on the other hand , just crumbled into a happy heap after tasting the DIVINE , TO DIE FOR goat kurma , I think the effect put me in a semi dream like state and I was very happy after the meal .
See , the four angled bean coconut salad below ? Now I don't need to rely only on Noor Bee Nasi Melayu for my fix . Yay .

And you know what else is amazing about this place ? Just like that Nasi Kandar Simpang Ampat , these curries did not make me feel warm and uncomfortable .
So that's a good thing especially for those who need to work in the scorching sun .

Location : Kampung Masjid , Bayan Lepas

Special mention : very , very clean . All of the ingredients that go into every dish seem to be of the highest hand picked quality .
