Numeral Eight Curry House, Alor Setar ( PF )

Update Nov 2014 :

I have bad news and I have good news. The good news is, they now cater to Malay & Muslim customers. The bad news is, the high quality is gone. The beef rendang was dry, the fish head curry was not as delightful as before. They even serve the weirdest Chinese tea I've ever had in my life.
Not returning. So long, farewell, goodbye forever. Wasted my time. Wasted my money. Wasted my petrol.

Plenty of fans will agree that this huge bungalow with no signboard is one of Alor Setar's best food venues.

Perfectly manicured lawns in a pleasant environment filled with interesting features greets every visitor....

First timers always never expect to see so many people eating under a strange theme of heavy wooden rafters with a mind boggling mix of Feng shui features, faux mother of pearl chairs and picnic tables with bistro like lighting.

Although they are reknowned for their Fish head curry because it is creamy and lemak but not overtly rich, with a uniquely delightful sourish tinge to it, we left that out today.

Instead we tucked heartily into the beef rendang which honest to goodness tastes as if it were cooked by a Malay. You'll have to try it yourself to believe it.

Moved on to the large prawns .

Very meaty and addictive indeed .

However, the mutton was a let down . Curry was definitely watered down.

So uncharacteristic of this place. Certainly hope it doesn't become the norm.

Something must be very, very wrong because this plate of sotong wasn't as good as it usually is, either.

Hmmmm strange....

Don't know if got billed extra for this plate of ulam with cucumbers, basil leaves, four angle beans and sambal.

Didn't ask for it yet it was sent to our table

What it boils down to is, did I find this entire meal worth the $50 that it cost ? If you don't take the huge jumbo prawns into account,no, not really.

It's definitely getting more expensive to eat here, it used to be dirt cheap you see.

Worst of all their standards are falling and patrons are forced to take Spritzer mineral water ONLY when they have run out of other drinks .
Their table tops smell bad and their foreign workers look terribly unhappy.

Hopefully they'll buck up soon and wake up from their slumber.

Still , I would highly recommend this place especially if it is your first time.
