Hawker made Chai Kueh ( PF )

The kitchen is not state of the art, in fact it's just a makeshift table top at the corner of a kopitiam.
I'm intrigued as I've never seen these increasingly rare dumplings being made before right in front of my eyes .
The price per piece costs just 60 sen with two stuffings to choose from.... turnip or chives .

Start with these essential ingredients below. The bowl of extra flour is to prevent it from sticking to your hands.

Pinch out a small section of flour from here

Roll to form a small ball

There, should look something like this

Pinch and even out to make a hollow in the centre

Put in the filling

Pinch to close

Which brings us to this important part.
Shows you who's the pro

End result ..pretty folds
Something I can never achieve even if I practice till my fingers fall off

You can catch the lady with the jade bangle in action at the Wongkok kopitiam in Bukit Mertajam old town in person, since they make these little kuehs in small batches fresh on the spot .

Me? I packed home five of each in two separate trays

Location : Kedai Makanan dan Minuman Wongkok, Bukit Mertajam

Directions : head towards Bukit Mertajam town, pass Summit hotel on your left, pass a pedestrian crossing, you will come to a corner coffeeshop when you turn left at the bend. The coffeeshop is on your right.
