Char Mee Suah - Cecil Street ( NH )

While Penang is reknowned for its char koay teow, have you ever tried char mee suah ?
There's sawi, pork slices, prawns, eggs and taugeh inside.
All nicely charred and very yummy.
Noodle is of a thicker texture than the usual variety you find in soups.
A rare dish that's in danger of disappearing but available here.

There are two stalls in this wetmarket, hawking this dish.
Both are just as good.
Just look out for the sign hanging high above and you will find them

Hawker made Chai Kueh ( PF )

The kitchen is not state of the art, in fact it's just a makeshift table top at the corner of a kopitiam.
I'm intrigued as I've never seen these increasingly rare dumplings being made before right in front of my eyes .
The price per piece costs just 60 sen with two stuffings to choose from.... turnip or chives .

Start with these essential ingredients below. The bowl of extra flour is to prevent it from sticking to your hands.

Fatty Loh Chicken Rice ( NH )

Fatty Loh is probably the only air conditioned chicken rice hawker shop on Penang island, that looks like an antique shop at first glance.

This is what their standard roast chicken rice set looks like
However, the taste is different from most chicken rice versions you've tried.

Ang Hoay Loh ( NH )

If it gets too late for lunch or it's still too early for dinner, you can rely on this place to tend to your hunger pangs.

In the mood for fish today, the standard offering here is Kerapu or Garoupa.
Nicely deep fried, crispy on the outside, juicy inside, doused with sauce that is not too salty.
The fish tasted even better when we started on the underside as the fish had absorbed all the flavour from the sauce by then.

Benugo at the NHM ( PF )

It's my first time here and I love it already. The setting is nothing short of spectacular.

Various muffins and cakes are laid out in the middle like a mini banquet for you to pick and choose

Is this elegant or what ?

Tree Monkey tea break, Teluk Bahang ( NH )

This is the view from the balcony . Peaceful and laid back.

While the main dining cabana has such a resort feel to it, you might even think you were on holiday in Phuket or Bali.
