Jasmine Garden Cafe ( PF)

7th January 2013 :

I don'tknow what's happened. Whether the kitchen is on strike or the chef has got a better offer elsewhere but the usual foods below which we ordered were dissapointing.
No taste. Not salty enough. Rancid char siew. Undercooked chicken.

Earlier post :

Although YMCA lies just a little further down, across the road , most tourists give this a miss, preferring to venture elsewhere without ever realising, that they have a gem right at their doorstep .
Instead a bulk of their customers nowadays, consists of Indonesian medical tourists and staff from the hospital nearby.

Belacan chicken is excellent.
No overpoweringly, bitter belacan flavour.
Just heavenly.
You absolutely have to try this dish when you're in Penang.

Kangkung belacan.
Hot, green, glossy and spicy.
No fake red, dyed chilli oil used here. Lethal stuff.

Fried rice.
Hard to get this type nowadays.
Only old chefs above 60 seem to know how to cook this style anymore.

Fried beehoon.
Not bad. Sticky, and a little on the sweet side.

Gulai fish fillet, is both sweet and sourish.
Typical Penang gulai with heavy Thai influence .
Am not joking when I tell you that an Indian security guard , was enjoying this with a serving of white rice.

Location : before YMCA International Hostel ( left ) and Island Hospital ( right )

Address : 288, Jalan Macalister, 10450 Georgetown, Pulau Pinang

Directions : Tune Hotel, Jalan Burma on your right, go straight. Pass Hotel 1926 on your left. Pass a field with a tennis court, turn left at the corner, after the end of the field . See a bridal house with a small Eiffel tower on your left.Take care to keep right. Come to a forked junction, turn right. Keep to your right, the restaurant is on the right, next to Church of Assumption .
