Kheng nyonya kueh stall - Batu Lanchang

Surprisingly , there aren't many good Nyonya kueh stalls in Penang these days .With the emphasis placed more on profit and mass quantity, these morsels have lost the all important intrinsic gourmet appeal.
However , inside this foodcourt area of an afternoon wetmarket, there still exists a stall which is a throwback to the time when kueh makers still had pride in the final product.

And because the locals know it, my gawd, you could feel the excitement in the air when tons of aunties converged here and practically wiped out the stall like a typhoon had swept through ! Fact is, their quantities are limited...hence, the urgency of the mission.
This photo below is the aftermath....almost nothing left walaueh. As if it were all for F.O.C.

Kueh Lapis.
A heck of a lot of work goes into this, each colour you see , comes from another round of individual steaming after the bottom layer is cooked . Only managed to grab 3 . Those mass produced ones tend to stick together. Not this. Found it a little less sweeter than I would have preferred , but I can safely say that to date, this is the best there is.

Turtle shaped green Angkoo kueh with gula melaka coconut filling.
Can't speak ! Feel like a kid again !
For those not accustomed to it, the surface is extremely oily to the touch, to prevent it from sticking to each other.
There's soooooo much filling inside.
To think, I'd almost given up looking for this on the island.

Pulut Inti with pounded dried shrimp.

World class !

They even have some extra ingredient which most sellers have omitted for umpteen years already. Probably daun gadok but oh who cares ? This is bloody good stuff ok ?

Red bean kueh. Rare in other places . Abundant here.
Didn't eat this, but the person who ate it for the first time ( coz all other varieties were wiped out ) said it was good.

That's all I managed to grab but I'll be baaack ( battle mode ready ) !
If you wanna find this place use this apartment as the landmark.

Directions : Look for a Petronas petrol station on Jalan Masjid Negeri. Should be on your left, immediately after the petrol station, there is a left turn after a block of walk up flats. Go straight, see a KFC on your left. You will pass a large parking area with lots of small trees on your left. Turn left again. That's where the foodcourt is.
Location : Batu Lanchang afternoon market
