Nasi Ganja - Yong Suan coffeeshop

As I entered the old but spacious kopitiam, the shiny glistening walls just made my jaw drop.

Unlike many other kopitiams in Penang, these days, they never sold a single antique chair. If there are any plastic ones around, it's to replace those broken beyond repair. How not to fall in love with this lovely kopitiam ?

This motherload of Ayam Merah fried chicken is the major draw. The meat is very dry yet I've never tasted anything as delicious before. Definitely coming back for this.

Again, since I'm here real early , I've got half an hour to kill, before they start business. Just having to wait to sink my teeth into all these is gonna be sheer torture.
There were so many plates of salted egg. Not my favourite but must be damn good judging from the unusual amount.

Put that time to good use and snapped away.
Deep fried black pomfret head with tongue sticking out . Any takers ?

The body, neatly stacked.
Again, out of the world taste although a bit dry.
Even better than the Ayam Merah if you ask me.

Mutton ribs in the back ( yeah, ribs, quality cuts ) , more pomfret this time, cooked in curry.

Curry squid, fish roe, prawns omg gonna have a tough time choosing from the vast variety

Pile it all on , till the rice is swamped by curry squid, prawns , salted egg, ladies fingers, cucumber and a mix of sauces.
Worry about the price later.

Spot the orangey coconut sambal on the side ?
Looks exactly like the Nameless Nasi Kandar in Chowrasta but tastes closer to Laksa Zakaria in Alor Setar. Deep fried finger licking good pomfet, prawns, chicken drumstick.

My order, the most modest of the lot.
Just Ayam Merah and Mutton ribs.
Geez the hot steaming rice is so damn good !
Totally different from Penang. Ok, I'm making this a compulsory stop from now on.

Verdict : Coz of the kick it gives you and the taste which keeps you coming back for more ? Worth the addiction !

Location : Jln Yong Kalsom, Ipoh
