Warong Corner - Jalan Banggol, Kuala Terengganu

One of the most peculiar things that sets the northern east coast states apart from the others is that the frontline businesses are mostly a woman's domain .

And judging from the lunch crowd, the white collar workforce seems to be like that too. Unsurprisingly, this first impression makes future parents in law from other states rather wary about their offspring settling down with a life partner from this region .

But I'm no authority on that subject, so let's get back to the food.
Terengganu ladies are one of the best Malay chefs.
So I guess I was a little let down that I found the food here a tad salty. That being said , I much prefer it to be that way rather than have a ton of sugar flavouring my picks .
It was hard deciding whether I prefered the turmeric deep fried Mackerel  which was so creamy ( lemak) and fresh, you would be licking your whiskers afterwards. Or the Barracuda slice cooked in curry. Simple yet most enjoyable especially when one is seated under a hot tin roof shaded away from the sweltering sun.

Ox tail soup.
Loved the sour spicy hot soup but left the meat as it was .
Too tough to bite but I'm figuring they like it that way.
Still every sip, went very well with the rice and I wouldn't consider it a waste as it actually tasted a little like clear beef tomyam soup. Take one spoonful and you'll squeeze your eyes together like a Line rabbit. Your throat will sear, nose will be assailed by the spices but it makes you keep drinking even more. Gosh. Nice.

Location : Kuala Terengganu

Directions : from Hotel Seri Malaysia in Kampung Cina, head towards the Chinatown arch and look for a chinese temple. Turn right into road, next to the temple and walk up against the traffic. The shop is on the left right at the end.
