I learnt how to make spaghetti from hubs. When I made the mistake of telling a full blooded Italian male that, he almost fell off his chair laughing at me.
" You ? A Chinese ? Can cook Spaghetti ? Baaahahahahaaaa !!! Ohohohohoooo !!!!"
( Moral of the short story : never tell the Italians you can cook spaghetti unless you want to be laughed at )
Anyway, spaghetti is so easy to prepare, what with the ready availability of sauces in the market, anyone can cook it. But over time, you know, just like gluten, these being wheat products....one can develop an allergy or intolerance towards it. Me, I'm one of those people. It's nothing serious though. But I have to stay away from some famous brands.
Plus, since I get the craving for a nice plate of pasta every now and then, it would cost a bomb for me to down freshly made pasta at say....Spasso Milano or Bella Italia .
Thus, I took my chance the other day and went for Selva , a Turkish brand.
No reaction. That's Great ! That was the first time.
Hence, yesterday, I went a hunting for it in ernest. Found it sold at both Cold Storage and Tesco.
Second time eating this, so far so good.
Which set me wondering . Why am I having a problem with the popular ones ? My guess is the semolina is sourced from China and you know exactly what goes on there.
In case you're wondering why Chinese products have not infiltrated Turkey on a bigger scale yet, well, surprise, surprise we have the Turkic Uyghurs to thank for that . Because of problems in Xinjiang let's put it that way. But let's not go into that shall we ?
