Some of you are eagerly awaiting the next Penang durian season. Currently there are a few stalls selling just a few precious fruits but whatever is available, is considered the " head " or beginning or early fruit thus the taste won't be as robust . Most local folks won't buy them as the fruit will be quite tasteless and flat , just like Thai durians so don't waste your money . Malaysian durians are very creamy with flavours ranging from sweet to slightly bitter and sharp.
As for me, whenever the craving crops up , I will get some durian ice cream but lately supplies for that too seems to have dried up.
Anyway , I chanced upon these mangoes above , at the local supermarket and recalled seeing one travel programme a long time ago , which left me completely horrified , when the host of the show proceeded to munch on the mango he was holding , with skin on.
The ( fail ) host was in Sri Lanka and he just chewed as he remarked how good it was. That's a lie.
Do not ever eat mangoes , mangosteens , rambutans and langsat with their skin on.
There is sap in the skin. On top of that the skin is leathery like the skin on aloe vera , plus it's probably got animal poop like bat and bird nether deposits , stuck on it .
Probably will taste like bitter sappy bat crap and the end result mixed with the fragrant natural sweetness of the fruit will not only be really strange , you might need to go very often after that.
This is how it should be enjoyed.
Cut the skin and slice it out. Remove the seed.
This is Thai Mango Rice by the way.
