A lot of mothers were dragged in here for Mother's Day and while I needed no persuasion , I was rather surprised by the communal pojangmacha feel to the restaurant.
There is one stark difference other than the foreign workforce and that's the bright, half bibbed aprons hung on every chair
Don't underestimate the quietness of the entire block.
You don't see many people because we were rather early but the place filled up in no time and a few groups had to wait it out much longer.
Samgyetang .
Have to say that they do whip up a most excellent version minus the obligatory ginseng wine . Fresh , fleshy chicken. Rich soup even though there is less ginseng root and more glutinuous rice . Full of natural sweetness hence the need for us to add salt in, for just a little bit more flavour. Probably sea salt and it comes in a small saucer. Yums.
The Koreans have done a great job in mass promoting this dish to tourists. We know how beneficial it is to our health and know how to order this when back in Malaysia.
Kimchi pancake.
Street worthy dish. Rather small. But very scrumptious though there are not too much ingredients inside.
Dak Galbi.
We never saw it coming. Your pores will be assailed and your tongue might drop off , so make sure you have plenty of drinks on standby to extinguish the flames.
Heat in the flat iron pan , is minimal. There is a gas tank directly underneath and they're all dressed up .
Yes the gas tanks are placed in cloth jackets underneath your table.
In it, you will find a mix of rice cake rolls , cabbages, chilli paste, chicken pieces and tiny sweet potato strips .
Once flipped, signals the start of a crazy eating marathon on your table. Wear the bibs to protect your clothes and handbag just in case the hot pan starts splattering red droplets all over . Believe me, you'll need lots of tissues to wipe your running nose and sweat because this dish IS as hot as hell !
The korean guy recommended that we add on ramen.
Some of you might think that it looks like instant noodles but I can assure you it is not. The noodles have a sticky , gluey texture to it. Besides, when the eggs go in, it resembles an overpriced big plate of mamak mee goreng . Again , no. Glad we took his suggestion because the ramen makes the entire dish one filling exercise.
Yep , Korean food cooked by foreign staff. They drop by your table a total of 3 times to help you cook the Dak Galbi all in, around 3 times .
All you need to do is sit.
You know, this pretty much sums up how we felt dining here. Because the chillies are searing hot , you will be turning your head to one side while closing your eyes . Sort of like a coping mechanism.
Lol. What a funny shot.
Other than the tumblers of drinks they place on each table, these cool lettuce leaves help bring the fire down a few notches.
Verdict : very spicy , be prepared to sweat it out, impressive portion even for 2 pax. I would prefer to add salt to the dish for more flavour.
Damage : very reasonably priced
Location : Jalan Desiran Tanjung, Vantage , Penang

You lucked out on that one Goh! I love Korean as well and now I'm thinking I should head out to Korean Town in Tokyo for lunch in the very near future!
