Royale Chulan - a palatial Malay glory

Have always wanted to stay at the Royale Chulan

As you can see from the picture below , Royale Chulan is a staggering , palatial looking complex , tucked away in the corner of Jalan Conlay .

Being the jewel of the Boustead Group's string of hotel chains , if you arrive at night , when day breaks , make sure you take a little walk around the perimeter of the sprawling property just to marvel at the architecture.

Enjoyed 2 nights on a lower wing just next to this tower . Short walk will bring you straight into the vibrant al fresco dining area at Pavilion shopping complex.
They even have apartments but I am not sure if it is on this wing ....

...or all the way over ....

....on this tower . Karangkraf handicraft centre lies next door.

One night here , costs a tidy sum , even by KL standards and you'll see what is it you are paying for.

Space . Lots of it .

The lobby is sweeping and large by today's standards, more so in this district  . Delicately designed chandeliers light up the gorgeous marble flooring with floral detailing .

As you enter from the front door , the first thing you will see is this spacious lounge with leather chairs ...

... flanked by a massive balustrade stairway both on the left...

...as well as the right.

Bellboys at the concierge desk  .
Dressed in traditional Malay attire .
I take it they're camera shy so I'm not gonna push it.

Check in is exceptionally smooth . Once they have your details on record , should you want to use any additional services , you don't even need to lift your finger to sign. The staff are vigilant enough to discreetly put it on record and bill you for your expenses later .

I do love the rich Malay cultural aspect which is exclusive to the Royale Chulan .
In a city where skyscrapers choke the skyline like sore steel thumbs , traditional emits a most magnificent appeal .

Lavish displays of wood everywhere , makes me as a guest appreciate the quiet serene luxury I have just escaped into, in the middle of a mad city  .

These are spears by the way. Used by guards back in ancient times . There are also warrior keris blades in carved wooden sheaths scattered about in displays cases but these " lembing" to me, is one of a kind , precious .

More on my stay here , in the coming post .

Location : Jalan Conlay , Kuala Lumpur.
