Dresden Weihnachtsmarkt - Flammlachshütte woodfire fish on a plank

Dresden's Christmas Market is so fairytale like on one hand and then on the other end of the spectrum , you have such fantastic shopping streets , this city is something serious shoppers and foodies, should place high on the bucket list .

Flammlachs is wood fire ( flamm ) grilled salmon ( lachs ) . The hut ( hütte ) itself draws you in like a magnet due to the warmth generated by the firewood and then when you see how nicely the fish is cooking , your tummy makes some noises , some saliva appears at the corner of your lips , driving you a little mad with desire , causing your wallet to magically float out without hesitation .

First spotted a similar hut in Frankfurt . But there were sooooooooo many people , it was really hard to even get in line . Also , the ladies looked so scary and fierce , probably impatient , I decided not to eat it there .
Brrrr ....some German ladies are so stern, so cross, so impatient and so angry , ( I kena one in the Blackforest before ), so no way , I wasn't gonna have nightmares over another .

It's certainly more pleasant here in Dresden , the East Germans are more relaxed , there may be less people , but the foods are no less delicious and although the price is higher for a plate of fish flakes than a whole giganormous chunk of fabulous , fabulous , ridiculously biiiiigggg slab of roasted ham , you have to try this at least once in your life  .
I ended up patronising them 3 times in total .

This cute boy helped out one of those 3 times , and he actually gave me more fish than the adults !
Such a sweetie .

You will be asked how you want it served . Ordering with bread is cheaper than fish flakes on a plate .
Fish is Atlantic Salmon .
Grilled on a cedar plank , this is very yummy I can assure you !

While it tastes so darned satisfying eating out in the cold night air ( don't be mistaken , Dresden IS cold , just that I was better wrapped up than in Rothenburg , whose icelandic wind caught most of us by surprise )
the fish flakes cooled down very rapidly out in the open .
Thus another night , we brought it up to the hotel ( sssshhh !!!!) but as we were eating , we realised that it was more fun just standing up out in the cold , with our backs blocking the wind , trying to feed ourselves with a filmsy fork , as our fingers froze and the coke ( yes we drank cold stuff here not Gluhwein ) sent a sadistic shiver down our spine , followed by a burp esscaping via our nostrils .
Ouch .

In a nutshell , eating out in the open with the crowd is much nicer , even though you will be annoyed at how fast the dish can cool down .

Also the fish is has all the good fats that prep you up real good from winter doldrums , while delivering a kick to the brain ( you'll feel a little high from this , the feel good kind of high ) .

Location : Dresden , Germany
