Ponn Cafe

June in Bangkok is a really good time to go sampling their shrimps . Unlike the beginning of the year , where the weather can get pretty temperate these days , the sun was unbearably unforgiving . But that seemed to have brought out the best in the produce this region has to offer . Chillies are hotter , fruits are sweeter , shrimps are firmer and fresher ( really no idea why ) and if you are lucky , you can also get to sample some off season flowers in your omelette .

Right now , we have deposited ourselves just outside Ponn . Which seems to be wildly popular with the English speaking Chinese from South East Asia segment , as well as local Thai Chinese folks .

There seems to be no system to the queue as the person in charge cannot control those who decide to cut straight in and find themselves a seat despite seeing how many people there are waiting outside . This they need to improve on and be vigilant about .

I did voice out my annoyance over the queue cutters but from what I observe , they don't want to offend anyone so ....hum , there's bound to be trouble one of these days .

Anyway , I'm actually gunning for their signature Char Ohm in the tomyam but there is one individual amongst us who just cannot stand the smell of that herb , thus , I will have to reluctantly let this one pass .

We end up trying the signature grilled pork ,marinated in a sweet sauce and just cooked , which left me kinda squeamish . Honestly , I expected more out of this . There were so many kafir lime leaves yet funnily it was not aromatic which was truly uncharacteristic as well as annoying .
Meat was nice , if you don't mind the leaves having no flavour at all .
Looks instagram perfect though , so I guess why the next table filled with 3 girl besties , ordered so many dishes .

Coming to the Tomyam , I find it better than most places I have been to in the past . Sour but not too hot with plenty of mushrooms and 6 whole butterflied shrimps inside . Yums !
The downside was finding that these ala carte dishes are so tiny when compared to the huge and impressive looking Pad Thai and salad sampler .

Here's what the restaurant looks like .
Quite impossible to miss .

Take note that if you are Malaysian , this is going to be quite expensive , so do bear that in mind before you pop in and order as much as the Thais . The baht is very strong right now and those 2 dishes plus rice and drinks cost us a lot . Don't say I didn't warn you .
The plus side is the staff here is very obliging and not judgemental as all tourists are still considered gold to them .

Location : Terminal 21 , Bangkok
