Sutti Mansion II - The Edge lookalike , his Blazing Pad Thai and our pot of Burning Tomyam

Never been to Soi 38 before . My first time exploring the area . Doesn't seem to be much action going on and from what I gather , it is all due to the efforts from the authorities on street hawkers .

While it may be a shadow of its past , I was determined to get a late night bite and the only place that looked kinda buzzing seemed to be this tiny , odd spot called Sutti Mansion II .

Of the first 2 stalls at the entrance , one is hawking fruit juices ( very good ) , the other grilled processed meats and thai style sausages ( also very yummy ) .

But I wasn't just here for a snack. It was late , we'd just finished exploring part of the Japanese village across the road , and so we sat down to this basin of tomyum goong which the blazing pad thai , U2 The Edge lookalike uncle was selling .

See the flame shooting up ? This is unusual and it happened only because we shifted the basin on the wrong cue and ended up spilling some soup onto the grimy tablecloth .
In silence we watched the flames ,oblivious to the danger of what if the cloth caught fire ?
I know it's so dumb , but that's what we did since , I was already dumbfounded at seeing The Edge , that U2 member , his oriental lookalike in action just beside me , frying pad thai with the wok breathing dragon fire !

Found a lot of mushrooms in the tomyum , as well as a number of shrimps ( nice ) , squid ( not nice ).
Soup was a bit too sour , slightly spicy , yet a lot better than a lot of the tomyum sold at the few street stalls I've ever patronised ( how strange is that ? That something can taste like one end of the spectrum yet be cohesive enough to make you remember and make a note to come back for another fix ). Cost is also higher than a lot of street stalls .

Thing is , if you sit out in the open , there is a little bit of a cool breeze and you can watch other tourists trying to make some sense of what exactly it is that they should try here , which is kind of funny actually .

That's him .
You can look at him from any angle , I swear he looks like that lead guitarist , despite having more prominent cheekbones and a larger bulb on his nose .

Gulp !!!
How's that for supper eh ?

Location : beside Thong Lor skytrain station
