Steamboat misadventure at MK - mmmmnnnnokay

You won't catch me having steamboat  or hotpot out of Penang . The only other place which I've actually enjoyed the steamboat / hotpot experience , was in Cameron Highlands ( covered somewhere in my backposts )

Since the first time I arrived in Bangkok , MK has been a fixture , it's been around that long !

I'm curious ...it's always full . Damnit let's go try it out today shall we ?

Order method is very sophisticated , relatively easy once you find the English button , yet they assigned a waitress to us initially , but still due to the language barrier and our inexperience here , well , this visit turned into a near disaster .

The much recommended dry green noodles with roast duck was excellent , exceedingly fatty under the skin as it should be and so delicious , we pressed the orders ourselves via the individual screen ( there is an English language option ) to get the largest plate of roast duck .

Big, big , big mistake ! DON'T do that unless you like a ton of sauce over the duck which we did not expect .
Wasted . Had to pour the sauce away .

This was nicer than the individual roast duck order which came flooded with the most horrible chee cheong fun type of sauce ever

Due to the language barrier , the waitress did not take our order for a vegetarian set .

It was so ridiculous , we only had 2 plates of 1 MK meatball which was very good and 1 oblong fishball thingy which was rather meh , with the pot of bare soup boiling for 10 minutes before we asked them where the heck our order was only to discover that it had not been placed at all .

When the vegetarian set arrived , we threw the lot into this and instantly regretted it because the soup stock  was not tomyam ( one had to request for it but we did not know that either ). It had some light red tinge to it and tasted like honey , no salt nor pepper , no flavour neither any other type of taste whatsoever , OH MY YUCKS !

Based on how the roast duck turned out on the noodle , he also ordered a huge plate of roast pork , which will tell you why Hawker Chan is going to succeed in this city .

3rd big mistake !

It's as fatty and porky and ughy and bleaughy as Fatty Loh in Fettes Park's version while being as tasteless as a stack of A4 paper ....

...believe me , I was trying to fix this but this is seriously beyond help , when the base is so bland and there is no salt , just fishsauce on the table .

Oh gosh , we should have been angry but the more we ate , the louder we giggled . Some schoolgirls were celebrating at the back and when I stood up at one point , I realised that not all these Thais here liked spicy food , they must like very bland soups , but almost everyone is here for the duck ( with no sauce mind you cos it SUCKS )

The roast duck comes with pickled sliced ginger god bless .

We tried to fake it .

We even chucked the whole lot of tasteless hard swine into the boiler but that proved futile , there was nary a trace of taste .
So pathetic .

Deng ....I truly enjoyed the MK meatballs , munched on the corn , skirted around the disgusting looking mess before I threw my hands up in surrender , paid the bill and we fled .
Is there going to be a next time ?
Have you ever eaten while thinking of an escape route all the time ?

We will come back . But just for the duck . If the kitchen makes a mistake and adds sauce to it , we are shoving it up their @$$e$  .

If you like spicy tasty food , move along .
This is KL ( for Kuala Lumpur ) standard steamboat .

Location : MBK , Bangkok
