The Museum has got to be one of the strangest , quirkiest restaurants I have ever been to in my life .
Located in Ipoh , you have got to come see this , when you find a chance to , cos if I use words to describe the place , I might rub some people off the wrong way but I'll try to keep it minimal and not too long winded anyway .
When you open the door , this faux fireplace , with mangrove sticks and a plugged in socket , is one of the first sights that greet you .
Combined with the colour scheme and candlelabras covered in layers of pink wax , it seems as if this corner is the Adam's Family temple to the British Royalty .
And then when you look into the restaurant proper , you wonder if this used to be a pub . But once your eyes digest all the other elements , it feels as if you just took a quick ferry and landed , in a yet to awaken corner of Lan Kwai Fong .
Eccentric .
Yeah , that's the right word to describe an undeniably tacky yet somehow stylo modern day Ah Beng kitchen .
Case in point : ultra tacky coloured straw and green plastic stirrer in a smoothie . Oh gosh .
Despite having an extensive Chinese western menu , what did we end up ordering here eh ?
We went oriental .
Char Siew Fan and Siew Yoke fan sets with ABCE soup ( no , you did not read wrong ) , pickled cucumbers , fried egg doused in pak yau as well as rice .
In a way , our maiden visit to Hawker Chan in Bangkok , did pique our interest .
So here we are , in this city trying to unearth more roaster gems in this city which I admit to not knowing too well .
Honestly , we tried roast meats in a few places and while each one seemed to outdo one another ( almost all that we tried were Chinese restaurant level cuisine , some even though clearly sandwiched in stuffy hawker centres ,which is amazing because they make it so affordable here ) , this Char Siew was ranked a class of its own .
It could change your perception of what acceptable level Char Siew Yoke ought to be . Well it redefined the dish for us certainly . Fat just melts in the mouth , in short this was so delicious
I wanted a platter to nibble over .
In contrast , I did not fancy the roasted Siew Yoke that much , still it is an experience in itself just dining here .
We also tried the prawn omelette which shows the chef's mettle.
I'm 100 percent sure , he or she is Hongkie trained , as no Malaysian can replicate this . If you didn't know , most of us Malaysians adore Hong Kong cooking as they ours .....vice versa.
Thumbs up on this one .
Really , really , really enjoyed it , in fact , it made me draw comparison to those wonderful Turkish breakfast omelettes , so , I tell you what , ok , I'll pop back in for another treat another time .
Location : Ipoh , Perak
