Ibis Styles Sukhumvit Phra Khanong

Welcome to the breakfast room located on the 7th floor of  Ibis Styles Bangkok Sukhumvit Phra Khanong ....
gulp ! ...what a mouthful .

Newly opened for business from December of 2017 , the paint smell was still fresh even by the time we came to stay here in February .

Not knowing what to expect , I found the minimalist chic lobby area pleasantly quirky .

At night , when all the lamps and fairy lights were switched on , was when I personally felt that the hotel was in its element

These gigantic woven fishes reminded me of the ketupat weave from back home and the artificial flowers were so pretty , there's no need for real ones .

Cleverly compartmentalised into sections , these seating arrangements took out the awkwardness of having to face a complete stranger while you sink into one of those updated vintage plastic loom chairs .

Even the grills just bordering the computer room drew my attention

As I wandered in , I found myself marvelling at the tasteful fake floral compositions on the far end of the long table . Really .

Anyway , being brand new has its advantages and disadvantages .
In so many years that I've visited the city , I've had 2 paranormal experiences and that's enough for me thank you very much , thus a new hotel ranks high on my list compared to one with ghostly occupants .

Not gonna focus on this hotels weak points since they're still very new . Rather , I prefer to show you snaps first and then let you judge for yourself . You can either take my opinion or leave it as it is . Ultimately , the choice is yours .

The nice young chap gave me a high floor right up on the 23rd level ( the hotel is 25 floors max )  so we sort of got treated to a birds eye view of the locale , each time we stepped into the room

Here , lemme show you

Was a bit of a challenge to photograph the room due to the angle.
I would say that Ibis Styles room is equivalent to Tune Hotel in KLIA .

Loved these Thai pillows .
We do have some larger sizes ones at home which we purchased from Padang Besar . However the handiwork and stuffing in these were far better so we really got a lot of support and comfort out of them .

How they were placed on the bed .
Despite looking so minimalist , the mattress , bedding and pillows were DIVINE so that provided a fantastic 5 star sleep for throughout the night .
Light sleepers could have a potential noise problem as the traffic builds up very early and ends late though . Also the BTS train track runs parellel and that could get loud at times .

Beside the bed was a narrow seater which moochi laid claim to .
Hmmmm....

The tv had a reception problem . But I don't know if it was just confined to our room or not .
The visual was fine , just that the sound was off and when we watched a movie , we had to try to make sense of what was being delivered in each sentence .

Counted a minimum of 5 charging points so that's a plus point for those with tons of gadgets

Safe box was working fine .
Kettle too .
Bottled water and coffee making sachets were replenished daily .

Weave theme repeated , this time via the sliding cupboard . That's an extra pillow up there .

Moving onto the bathroom .
Hardly ever feature the toilet first but there's always a first time and that's mostly because of the wall mosaic standing out so prominently behind it .
There's a jet spray on the side and I need to state that we never once needed to prompt housekeeping to replace the toilet rolls and towels either so that was fantastic compared to a lot of hotel policies nowadays .

No issues with hot water from the tap. Hot enough to scald if that's your thing , you sadist you .
Being a new hotel , you are assured of getting newer , whiter towels than in an older establishment .

Coming to the shower area , in tune with modern times , there is a rainbath with no door .
The shower gel and shampoo found in the wall pump containers are not el cheapo stinky stuff .
They actually made me smell wonderful from hair to toe ! Loved them .

Which brings us to THE main issue which is The Shower room .
Comes with two major flaws .

# 1 . Your room mate can clearly see suds sliding down your feet as you are bathing . Sexy mexy for couples maybe but if you have kids with you , place all your bags against the opening here so they don't get grossed out .

# 2. When you use the shower , the water , no matter how careful you are , will start leaking out from the bathroom . So please be extremely careful or one slip could mean ..... hmmmmm sayonara ?

Back to the breakfast room .
No , don't skip breakfast or try to save here , it looks basic at first , with a limited array , but once you tuck in , you'll know why people are raving about the food here .
Constantly topped up , I just let go like an eating machine unleashed wooooo .

Simple yet sweet dried flower table arrangement .

Enjoyed many mornings here just pigging out round after round .
Can't show you everything I had , it's just too embarassing lolz !

The buffet was so satisfying , I didn't even feel compelled to go give the gym a go . Besides , I don't enjoy running or cycling that much.  I  prefer those pulley weight machines to these so while I did not use this facility , a lot of hardcore guests did , leading to this small being packed during breakfast time even !

Pool is just beside the breakfast room .
See how polluted it was at the time ?
Nobody and I mean nobody gave a damn lol .

Overall , it was a good stay for us . We enjoyed the 5 star sleep , wonderful privacy , tasty breakfast , nightime fairyland light up and facilities especially the golf cart shuttle ride to the BTS station .

Location wise , I'll have to admit that it is a bit far but when you discover that there's a soi where food is so delicious yet cheap , you should give this hotel serious consideration despite the prementioned flaws . That being said , I do hope they fix the bathroom problem soon .

Breakfast rating : waaaay better than some 5 star hotels these days despite the limited variety

Sleepwise : 5 star

Light sleepers : either you skip this hotel completely or you bring earplugs with you .

BTS station : Phra Khanong ( exit 4 )
