While tons of local tourists poured into Penang , we decided to escape from the crowds and headed up to Alor Setar .
Had both breakfast and lunch here.
Both times noodles , both times a first try for us .
Actually wanted to go to another roti canai place just outside town , but alas it was not open so here we were .
First up Breakfast .
You can choose from dry noodles or the soupy version , next ,whether you prefer it with Pai Kut ( Pork Ribs ) or the Ark ( Duck ) , last of all ,
Beehoon or handmade noodles .
Choice is entirely up to you but we both went for the vermicelli and boy was it fantastic !
It reminded me of a watery version of stewed ngau lam ( beef ) noodles from my childhood , so I enjoyed this very , very much despite it being considerably watered down .
There's old ginger in the soup which made us both turn pink halfway through . This doesn't happen very often but when it does , I will have formed a very good opinion of the food . It has to be extremely good for our health for that to happen , no doubt about that !
Yummy to the last drop , I will come back for this !
For lunch , which starts after 11am , we selected so many yong tau foo ingredients , they had to split it into 2 bowls .
The fishpaste wasn't very springy , but it was fresh and kinda alright , no complaints whatsoever .
On that note , I really like the taupok as I'm a taupok fan and it turned out to be nothing familiar yet I still wolfed it down with gusto .
These noodles on the other hand were so darned oily yet they tasted so damn good .
Ah my gawds , if they were based in Jalan Silang , they could give a good fight to the wantan mee beef noodle seller there .
Make sure you try this but be warned that it is super oily so don't say I didn't warn you .
There's many bits of heavenly lard inside which will shoot you straight to heaven .....oh yes it will , cos it's so fresh I tell you .
The only thing I did not like about Lor San was the pushy tea lady .
Don't agree to try her tea cos if you end up not purchasing it , she will sulk around the shop , thus spoiling what ought to be a great meal in a nice and quiet shop .
Both the burly beefcake and his lady helper were angels compared to that old woman so do beware and decline her ( at first ) sweet and gentle pleas for you to give it a go .
