Marvellous Sunday morning big breakfast just outside the Botanical Gardens

Breakfast sets sold by Chinese operated western stalls in the whole of Malaysia are sooooo predictable .

Boring even .

Thus when he suggested this place located just outside the Botanical Gardens ( next to a bee/ honey product gallery ) , I groaned , you know , cos I can actually cook up a better , more sumptuous big breakfast set than any of these hawkers and Chinese western restaurants and shops .

The instant we sat down and I opened  up the menu ...gasppppp !!!!

What is this ?

How come we didn't come here and eat sooner ?

For less than MYR 11 you get this hotel standard set .

Bacon ,  ham , breakfast sausage , mashed potatoes , one egg , salad , mushrooms , and a slice of bread cut in two !

Isn't it beautiful ? Soooo pleasing to the eye and if you post this up on the social media , this is a meal which looks like you paid 20 to 30 ringgit for !

Less than 10

There are some towns where if you were to ask the local folks 

" what's good to eat here ? "

they will reply with a straight face and tell you

" nothing . Everything doesn't taste good here "

Of course they're joking . But only because they want to get the point across to you that they are indeed dead serious about keeping the really good and cheap eats to themselves without having to battle with pesky tourists . So they shut you out as a last resort to keep the gourmets out of the fort .

And I'm beginning to learn the wisdom in that . 

From my crab craze , I'm moving onto Chinese Western .

That's how I found this place just now . For 10 ringgit , this steakhouse standard meal just made me float to heaven .

But I'm sorry , I truly , truly , truly have to keep this secret .

A " local only knows this " haunt , I intend to keep it that way for as long as possible . Cos I'm still terribly upset with how things have gone down south with James Foo these days even though his prices keep going upwards .

When it comes to Chinese Western fare , I only patronise 5 6 operators on the island .

1. James Foo .

Used to .

However , I've just about had it with them ever since they upgraded at Precinct 10 . Stopped going for a few months already .

2. Green Island .

Near Sunshine Square .

Cordon bleu chicken . Touch and go depending on the chef and his mood .

Bit too far . Inconvenient parking 

( sometimes none )

3. Goodall cafe at Bagan Jermal . Used to be known as Godfather Italian now is just known as Italian .

Cheap but oily and the portion is very small . Love the cheap pasta though .

4. The fella in Sin Kim San ( near the wood fire pizza ) .  Chicken chop done Hainanese style !
