Spring Onion blossoms

When Typhoon Hato and Pakhar hit Hong Kong , Macau and South China recently , even though I live so far away over on Penang island , we can still feel the tail end of the effects as well . Hence , the weather here has dipped , the skies have poured and it's been considerably chilly over the weekend .

And although I was kinda worried about the winds , this unexpectedly happened .

The bunch of spring onions which I had bought and left out on the table , with the roots dry , suddenly burst into life and bloomed . Notice the single star shaped six petal flower down there ?
It's never happened before !

Playsuit payoff

Sunday afternoon was spent on retail therapy , picking out new togs out of store racks .
Once again , I found myself gravitating towards Cotton On where I had to this time , being a weekend , contend with very excited Thai bargain hunters who seemed to swoop up sports bras by the basket loads ! They're probably business women cos I don't know any exercise freak who will buy that many sports bras at one go , at least not yet .

Ah , but my intention to enter this store , has swayed from focus on their activewear and now that all the effort  is slowly paying off  ( but still a big girl mind you ) , I'm moving on .
Of course , I could find a million faults to fret over my unperfect body but what's the point in that eh ?

Ended up picking 2 playsuits and a 2 piece combo all in . What I consider my personal payoffs for all the time poured into my workouts .

Dimsum detective

We popped into our usual dimsum haunt this morning in Georgetown .
Nothing very unusual about the bill , the only thing we did out of the norm was to pick a spot in a completely different part of the large dining area .

Nerdy frames - I like

Usually when I select a new pair of spectacles , I try to get the largest size possible . It's been that way with me from the time I first starting wearing 'em . When the frame gives up on me due to damage most times , I give the optician orders to show me smaller frames that he can cut and fit the old specs into .

But now seeing how my face seems to be slimming down till my old ugly ( what I call the pair of specs you see me wearing in the post just before this one , my habit of recycle cutting is how I ended up with such a tiny frame ) keeps sliding off my nose bridge until I really look like a nenek ,  a new pair is necessary .

It turns out that large round frames are currently in favour . I tried them but they don't seem to suit my face thus I settled for this squarish , what I presumed to be a barracuda type of  frame , more suited to matured oriental women such as muah .

Ten common sense fitness pointers for the over forty

If you're a new reader , this year marks the first concerted effort I'm taking towards a fitter me  .

I'm now in my mid forties , lost a huge amount in the first few months of sticking to a programme which increased in frequency each week . For the moment , I have reached a plateau , which can be frustrating  for some but requires a fair amount of drive to rise above .

Based on what I've observed so far , too many women push themselves beyond their personal capability , then become depressed and give up when they compare their progress or lack of progress , to other girls in their group .

Here's some common sense pointers I've applied to myself .

Self acceptance

I've reached the auntie age group already and I accept that .
No matter how much the truth may hurt , sometimes it's easier to embrace what you have already prepared yourself for .

For some women , ageing makes them miserable , angry even . They won't go down without a fight .

Purpose

Me . I want to be happy . I want to try and stay positive for as long as I can .Getting wired into a fitness regimen is my way of coping with the ageing process . Instead of mopping over a sluggish metabolism , nagging pains , grey hairs and wrinkles and join the fight to regain my youth , I focus on strengthening myself to tide the flow when it finally hits home .
