Frog Porridge, Goodall Cafe ( NH )

Some people believe that frogmeat is supposed to be beneficial for cleansing our blood and perking up our constitution.

It is considered good for treating exhaustion, great for strengthening the immune systems in small children. Even better for women who seek a radiant complexion.

Almost wiped out and hunted to extinction, most of it that makes it to our table today is farm produced.
The method of slaughter however is starkly cruel on the same level as dog and whale meat.
Thus if you find this delicacy shockingly unagreeable, I would advise you not read on.

To make it sound more palatable, it is sometimes called 'tin kai' or padi chicken.
Whether it is farmed American bullfrog or river frog, whatever they label it,it is still frogmeat.

We decided to have this for dinner because we remembered that this jovial chef, whips up good tasty dishes and congee. The weather also played a crucial part. It's been so hot the past 2 days with no wind at all.

The man behind the counter, is an expert at skinning them alive on the spot after you place your order.
If I saw it with my own eyes I would probably loose my appetite and faint, so I walk away fast as I can and sit a safe distance away, using this boy as a shield.

Let him know how many pax you want it for, as well as what style you would like the meat to be cooked in.

Choose from either Dried chilly style (delicious !) to Spring onion which is not so spicy, or even Fried garlic.
I have never tried the fried version because, what's the point if it is supposed to be a healthy dish and you contradict that by deep frying it ?

Your request will arrive in two black claypots.
Don't be alarmed by the colour. It is a good thing because it means that the porridge will probably turn out very smooth, creamy and fragrant.

And we are right. But not only that, when we take a sip, we discover that the porridge is made from luxurious fragrant rice (beras wangi) with a pinch of salt.

Scoop a little sauce out from the mini cauldron where the frogmeat is and mix it with the porridge.
Take your time to savour the precious small morsels of tender scrumptious, very spicy and irresistible frogmeat.
